ISO STANDARDS EXPLORATORY SEARCH FOR
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT OF MEDICAL PRODUCTS WORKFLOW

Introduction. Interaction and “understanding” between information systems dealt with medicinal product workflow are possible when participants comply with the standards for representation of relevant information.

Purpose. A substantiated list of standards for information management of medicinal product workflow.

Methods. Exploratory search, visualisation and analysis.

Results. Over 30 published and developed ISO standards in the area of health informatics and other areas of standardisation have been found. Among them, 10 are responsible for the identification of IDMP medicinal products, who are basis, while others based on IDMP standards follow the different requirements for medication information. The proposed visualization of references between standards with indication of power is useful for choosing the most significant ones for various tasks of information management of medicinal product workflow.

Conclusion. There have been analysed references of more than 30 ISO Standards for information management of medicinal product workflow: 1) IDMP Standards, 2) other Standards in the field of health informatics and 3) Standards outside the field of health informatics. The 13 Standards are based on the National Standards of Ukraine. The study results give the opportunity to extend the list of national standards for the information management of medicinal product workflow, in particular by the published ISO/TS 19293 and by the ISO/TR 14872 and ISO/NP TR 24080 the after their publication. Also, we should consider in more detail the standards of traditional Chinese medicine, in particular ISO / TR 23021. It justified that the Standards can form a basic list. The list should be reviewed and reduced or extended for particular tasks of information management of medicinal product workflow (e.g. by ISO / HL7 27953 for pharmacovigilance).
