Information System for the Collection of Cells From Human and Animals Tissues

Purpose. The structure of database on the collection of the cells from human and animals tissues are presented. The collection supports the cultures derived from normal cells, tumors, transformed and immortalized cells.

Introduction. In a kernel database, three modules are allocated. They are named: the module of general description, the administrative module, and the module of storage. Information processed in these modules reflects different important aspects in the collection description.

Each set of data in the module of general description identifies cell culture, indicates its origin, characterizes the morphology, physiology, genetic structure, defines the conditions for cultivation and long term storage, the sphere of use, biological danger to the external environment. In output system of the database, there are some reports based on these data among them are the passport of cell line, expanded numeric index, the catalogue, the list of new cell lines deposited.

Data on depositories, contracts and performance of services are processed in the module of administration. In the output system of the database, there are reports on the contracts of deposit and supply of the cell cultures for a user-specified time interval.

In the module of storage, data in the log of storage and the log of use reflect in chronological order processes of conservation and use of each cell line during it stay in collection. On the base of these data, chart of move and state of cell line may be formed automatically. Based on the data from the log of location of the vials, the user can obtain the map of free places in refrigerating plants.

Results. In the database, there is a built-in information retrieval system. The search engine uses the values of such parameters of description of cell line as registration number, name, species, tissue/organ, group, special properties, applications. In the search results, information about cell lines is presented in a catalogue format.
